Welcome back, Barrons!

As we prepare to begin the 2026–2027 school year, Woodbridge High School is excited to welcome our students, families, faculty, and staff back for another great year. This week's update includes Freshman Orientation, important back-to-school dates, Genesis information, new arrival and security procedures, fall athletics, and other reminders to help students and families prepare for September 2.

The first day of school on September 2 will be a full day, with dismissal at 2:30 PM.


Freshman Orientation – Monday, August 24

Welcome, Class of 2030!

All incoming freshmen, upperclassmen who are new to Woodbridge High School, and their parents/guardians are invited to attend Freshman Orientation.

Date: Monday, August 24

Time: 10:00 AM

Location: Woodbridge High School Auditorium

Entrance: Door #8, near the auditorium and gymnasium

Please plan to arrive a few minutes early.

Orientation is an opportunity for our newest Barrons and their families to become familiar with WHS, learn what to expect during the upcoming school year, and begin making connections within the school community.

Genesis Parent Portal Opens August 26

The Genesis Parent Portal will open on Wednesday, August 26 at 1:00 PM.

Parents and guardians will need to complete all required documents in Genesis before certain information becomes available. Once the required forms have been completed, students will be able to access their 2026–2027 schedules.

Families are strongly encouraged to use Genesis regularly throughout the year. Report cards, progress reports, attendance, discipline referrals, grades, and other important student information are available through the portal.

Please note that the deadline for changes to 2026–2027 course requests was June 30. Course request changes are no longer permitted, including changes to AP and Dual Enrollment courses.


First Day of School – September 2

The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Doors Open: 7:15 AM

Students Report to Homeroom: By 7:50 AM

Dismissal: 2:30 PM

Students should report directly to their assigned homeroom on the first day.

September 2 will follow a special Extended Homeroom Schedule to help students begin the new school year.

Students arriving after 7:50 AM will be considered late.


New Morning Arrival & Security Procedures

Families should review the updated arrival procedures with students before September 2.

School Entry

Students may enter through:

  • Door #1 – Main Entrance

  • Door #8 – Gymnasium Entrance

Both entrances open at 7:15 AM.

Students are encouraged to arrive between 7:15 AM and 7:40 AM whenever possible to allow enough time to complete the security process.

All students entering WHS will:

  1. Pass through a walk-through metal detector.

  2. Place backpacks, book bags, purses, lunchboxes, and other carried items through an X-ray scanner.

  3. Scan their school-issued student ID at a mobile check-in station.

After completing the entry process, students will report to Cafeteria 125 or the gymnasium until they are released to class.

Students arriving early for extra help, athletics, clubs, or another supervised school activity should enter through Door #8.


Breakfast, Food & Water Bottle Reminders

Breakfast will be available in Cafeteria 125 beginning at 7:30 AM.

Students who do not purchase breakfast at school should eat before arriving.

To help maintain an efficient security process:

  • No open food or beverages may pass through security.

  • Food brought from home must be secured inside a lunchbox and placed inside the student's backpack.

  • Open coffee, drinks, breakfast sandwiches, snacks, and similar items will need to be discarded before entering.

  • Food may not be consumed in classrooms or hallways.

  • DoorDash and other food delivery services will not be accepted at school.

Students may bring a clear plastic water bottle.

Metal containers, including Stanley, Yeti, Owala, Hydro Flask, and similar bottles, are not permitted.


Cell Phone & Electronic Device Reminder

Students and families should be aware of the district's electronic device expectations for the 2026–2027 school year.

Cell phones and other personal electronic devices are prohibited during the school day.

Students must:

  • Silence and secure cell phones upon entering the building.

  • Keep phones and personal electronic devices stored and out of sight.

  • Refrain from using smartwatches, headphones, earbuds, and other personal electronic devices during the school day.

  • Keep earbuds, headphones, and headsets stored throughout the school day.

Parents or guardians who need to contact their child during school hours should contact the school through the Main Office.


Backpacks & Lockers

Students may use backpacks to carry materials to and from school, but backpacks must be stored in lockers during the school day.

Only handheld clutch bags are permitted in classrooms.

Students will receive a locker and school-issued combination lock on the first day of school. Only locks issued by WHS may be used on school lockers.

Backpacks and book bags are also not permitted at after-school athletic events.


Transportation Reminders

Bus assignments will be available through the Genesis Parent Portal by the end of August.

Students should know their assigned bus route number. All WHS routes begin with WH-.

WH-1 through WH-12: Front of the building

WH-13 and higher: Rear of the building

Students must ride only the bus assigned to them by the Transportation Department.

Students with Senior Leave must have transportation arranged after Block 3 and may not leave school grounds and later return to ride a school bus.


Attendance Reminder

When a student will be absent or late, a parent or guardian should contact the WHS attendance line before 7:30 AM.

All students, regardless of age, must be signed out by a parent or guardian when leaving school before dismissal.


Fall Athletics – Come Support the Barrons!

Fall sports are underway, and our Barrons have several home competitions this week.

Even though classes don't begin until September 2, student attendance is strongly encouraged! Come out, reconnect with your classmates, support our student-athletes, and help us start the new school year with Barron pride.

Our Thursday night football game is a great opportunity to kick off the new school year and show your Barron pride before classes even begin. Students, come out and support your Barrons!

WHS Open House – Save the Date

Parents and guardians are invited to the 2026–2027 WHS Open House.

Date: Wednesday, September 9

Time: 6:00 PM

Location: WHS Auditorium

Following the opening program, parents and guardians will have an opportunity to follow their student's schedule, meet teachers, and learn about course expectations and programs for the new school year.

Families are encouraged to attend.


WHS PTO – Get Involved

Woodbridge High School is working to revitalize the WHS Parent-Teacher Organization for the 2026–2027 school year.

Parents and guardians interested in getting involved are encouraged to participate. The PTO supports student activities, school events, staff recognition, school spirit, and other initiatives benefiting the WHS community.

The PTO is currently seeking volunteers, including individuals interested in serving as:

  • President

  • Vice President

  • Secretary

No previous PTO experience is required.
