Today, New Jersey goes blue and gold! Schools across the state are wearing blue and gold to take a stand against bullying. As we end our Week of Respect and Inclusion, remember that your words and actions matter. Continue choosing kindness, including others, and speaking up when someone is being treated unfairly!

The National Junior Honor Society members are currently collecting cans from each homeroom for the Can Can Challenge. There are prizes for the winning homeroom. IMS has a goal of collecting 1,000 cans. Are you up to the challenge?? Bring in as many cans as you can so your homeroom can win and so IMS can complete the challenge!
Cheerleading tryout practice will be Tuesday, October 13th, after school in the gym until 5:00 PM! Students without an active physical will not be able to participate. Check the Cheer Google Classroom for any updates.

The Panthers softball team lost to Fords yesterday. The Panthers of the game are 6th grader Carla Cruceta and 8th grader Julia Walsh. The Panthers will be in the playoffs on Tuesday against Woodbridge Middle School.

Today’s Hispanic Heritage Month fact… Did you know that Chilean poet and educator Gabriela Mistral became the first Latin American writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945? A teacher as well as an author, she helped bring Latin American poetry to worldwide attention, showing how powerful words and storytelling can be.

IMS Panther softball team keeps showing improvement. The Panthers of the game are Carla Cruceta getting on base and showing terrific improvement offensively. Indira Horsford started a double play, catching a fly ball in center and picking off a Colonia runner from 1st base. And Jelissa Mejia snagging a line drive, diving to first and then throwing to 2nd to complete a TRIPLE PLAY.

It’s finally here! The IMS 4 v 4 Soccer Tournament will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15th. If you are interested in playing, grab 4 friends and make a team. Team rosters and permission slips can be found in the cafeteria and on the IMS website. You have until Thursday, Oct. 8th to get your completed entry into the main office or to Mrs. Neilson.

The IMS Panthers lost yesterday to a strong CMS team. The Panthers of the game are Laaibah Adeel and Gurbani Grewal with solid at bats and each hitting singles. Also Julia Walsh who again pitched a few strong innings and hitting a grand slam in the 5th inning.
Now for today’s Hispanic Heritage Month fact…Did you know Sylvia Mendez was turned away from a California school because of her Mexican heritage? Her family challenged that unfair treatment in court, helping open the doors of California’s public schools to more children.

Band members, there will be a band information meeting next Wednesday September 23rd at 7:40 am. Please be sure to attend to obtain music, and all of the morning rehearsal dates. It will take place in room 606.
The 8th grade National Honor Society will have its first meeting on Thursday, September 24 at 7:30am in Room 117. All members must attend.
Attention 8th graders! Today is the last day to submit an application for Sidekicks! Selected students will visit an elementary school and teach fourth graders about goal setting, bullying prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, and internet safety. Approximately 45 students will be chosen based on strong academics, attendance, and conduct. The application can be found in your grade-level Google classroom. See Mrs. Celano with any questions.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will be celebrating with a spirit week! On Monday, wear the colors of Hispanic Heritage Month- red, yellow, orange, and green! Today is a B day.
Today we celebrate National Cream Filled Donut Day.
Attention 8th graders! Applications are now open for Sidekicks! Selected students will visit an elementary school and teach fourth graders about goal setting, bullying prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, and internet safety. Approximately 45 students will be chosen based on strong academics, attendance, and conduct. The application can be found in your grade-level Google classroom. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 18th. See Mrs. Celano with any questions.
