EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Art Club - Advisor Ms. Leone

Welcome to Art Club! Our purpose is to provide an opportunity for any interested students to meet after school for a shared artistic experience. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, our goal is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can discover and enhance their artistic abilities. As a member you can expect community involvement, art appreciation, collaborative projects, skill development, and creative explorations. We can’t wait to welcome you into our creative community! Join us and together we’ll make a colorful and vibrant space. We will start meeting on Tuesdays and Thursday in 2025.

Band - Advisor Mr. Vazquez

The IMS Band program is for students who enjoy playing an instrument and performing for an audience. Students MUST be enrolled in the band class to participate (please contact your child's guidance counselor for enrollment). Any student may join, and no auditions are required (except for Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band which start in the Spring). There will be required morning rehearsals once a week starting at 7:20 am for all students enrolled in band. All rehearsals are in room 606. Looking forward to making wonderful music with you!

Book Club - Advisor Mrs. Wanko

The IMS Book Club will meet throughout the year to discuss different novels. Language Arts teachers will discuss the book selections and permission slips will be available if you are interested. We will meet and discuss the selected book, enjoy a craft to go along with the reading, and participants can win prizes at each meeting. Mrs. Wanko is available in Room 121 if you have additional questions regarding IMS Book Club.

Chemistry Club - Advisor Ms. Zuber

Science lovers, UNITE! Want to learn about chemistry in a safe, hands-on learning environment? We'll be discovering the difference between physical and chemical changes, learn about the periodic table of elements, and experiment with states of matter. Students will be expected to first learn lab safety and agree to sign and adhere to a lab safety contract. We will meet on the first two Tuesdays of each month in room 410. An interest meeting will take place at the end of September and the club will officially begin in October.

Chess Club - Advisor Mr. McGann

Welcome to the I.M.S Chess Club! Players at all levels are welcome to join. We will meet after school on Wednesdays in room 117 starting November 13, 2024. This club’s members aim to learn, improve, and compete on the 64 squares. If you want to join, see your grade level classroom for more information, or contact Mr. McGann.

Choir - Advisor Mr. Tamashausky

The IMS Choir program is for students who enjoy singing, want to improve their vocal skills, and like to perform. The program consists of two choirs: IMS Choir and Select Choir. Any student may join IMS choir, no audition is required. Choir is also an optional elective class for 7th and 8th graders. You can be in choir without taking the elective class, but it is highly encouraged. If you are not signed up for the class, please see you guidance counselor ASAP and add it to your schedule. We also have rehearsals twice a week before school at 7:30 am in the Art room. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Select Choir is an extra-curricular activity and is by audition only. This group meets every Monday after school in Room 604.

Community Council  -  Advisor Mrs. Baldesweiler & Mrs. Kosmowsky

The Community Council is dedicated to exposing our students to civic duties, responsible citizens and active leaders not only within our school community but within the community of Woodbridge Township at large. The goal of the Community Council is to involve all members in community service. The call to action has a real impact and allows our students to work on causes they care about. The Community Council is open to students in every grade at Iselin Middle School. Some of the projects and organizations we are involved with include: National Park Clean Up, Tooling around Town, Cards for Veterans, Making Strides against Breast Cancer, and fundraising for a charity chosen by the student body.

Dance Company - Advisor Ms. Popino

The Dance Company is for students looking to learn, create, and perform dances. Any student may join, no auditions are required. The Dance Company will meet weekly at various times depending on the number of dances each student decides to participate in. Students may participate in no more than three dances. The Winter Showcase will be on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00PM.

Debate Club - Advisor Mr. Andrews

Do you like to enjoy a good, old-fashioned debate with others about various issues? Are you good at organizing your thoughts and making your point in a constructive and convincing manner? If so, consider joining the Debate Club! The Debate Club will meet in room 123 - see Google Classroom for any questions.

Drama Club - Advisor Ms. Calicchio

IMS Drama Club is for any and all students looking to express themselves both on and off stage. Drama Club will meet Tuesdays and Thursday from 3:05-3:50pm on the stage starting in October. Students will engage in all parts of a rehearsal process in order to present their Spring Performance to family and friends on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Please see Ms. Calicchio on the stage for any questions.

Esports - Advisor Mr. McDonough

Esports is the place to be for competitive gaming! Join a team in a popular esports title and play against other schools for a championship. Tryouts are seasonal, but we have something for everyone. We will meet in room 505 after school on Thursday.

Gaming Club - Advisors Ms. Perla

Do you want to explore and escape a dungeon? Or see which one of your friends is the Ultimate Smash Fighter! Or maybe you just want to leisurely play a classic Mario game. Come to Gaming Club! We meet every Tuesday after school in room 117. Listen to the announcements for our first interest meeting. In order to participate, you must have a signed permission slip and be passing all of your classes. See Ms. Perla for more details.

Garden Club - Advisors Mrs. Weber and Ms. Olarte

The Garden Club is open to every grade level at IMS. Members maintain the various gardens and grounds of IMS, including the Butterfly Garden located in the school’s courtyard. Students are directly involved in the planting, weeding, and mulching of these areas. Club members also have the opportunity to participate in community-based projects such as National Park Clean Up Day, Tooling Around Town, and our own School Clean Up Day. The Garden Club also conducts a variety of plant sales each school year, a Mum Sale in September/October, a Poinsettia Sale in December, and a Mother’s Day Plant Sale in May.

Geography Club - 6th and 7th Grade - Advisor Mr. DiNuzzo

Are you interested in learning about different countries?  The Geography Club is open to any 6th or 7th-grade student with an interest in geography and geography trivia.  Students gain knowledge of another country's cultures, customs, languages, climates, physical description, and foods. Geography is a tool for building empathy and understanding between people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Guitar Club – Advisor Mr. Ricci

If you are someone who always wanted to learn to play but has zero, or minimal experience, do not let that stop you. The purpose of this club is to teach the basics of the guitar and to spark a lifelong interest and hobby. Conversely, if you have played before and continue to learn, this is even more reason to attend to get extra practice, learn new things, and even assist the teacher with the club. The school has a LIMITED number of guitars, so you are not required to bring your own; however, if you do have your own instrument, we do urge you to bring it with you. We will be meeting in room 112. 

IMS Honor Society - Advisors Mrs. Esteves and Mrs. Herbeck

The IMS Honor Society recognizes 7th and 8th grade students for their academic achievement, community service, and participating in extracurricular activities. Seventh grade students are invited to apply for membership after the second marking period in grade seven. Applications are then reviewed by a selection committee of five faculty members. Once students are selected, an induction ceremony takes place in April of 7th grade. Once inducted, students are required to pay one-time dues, attend monthly meetings, and complete quarterly service-learning activities throughout 8th grade.

Math Challenge - Advisor Ms. Perla

Calling all math enthusiasts! Join the IMS Mathletes, our school's math competition club, where you'll challenge your problem-solving skills and mathematical creativity. Open to students in grades 6-8, this club offers the chance to compete in various math contests, both individually and as a team. You'll work on problems ranging from 6th-grade math to topics beyond Algebra 1, preparing for competitions that will test your ingenuity and mathematical flexibility. Meetings are held every Thursday morning in Room 117, at 7:30 AM. Whether you're a math whiz or just looking to improve, the IMS Mathletes is the place to showcase your talents and have fun with numbers!

Math Extra Help - 6th Grade - Advisor Mr. DiNuzzo

Do you need help on your math homework or would you like to review a math topic? If so, come to room 511 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. This club is available to all 6th-grade students. You can also work on IXL, projects or play math review games. Please see Mr. DiNuzzo with any questions.

Math Extra Help - 7th Grade - Advisor Ms. McLaughlin

Available to all 7th grade students. Join us Tuesday and Thursday mornings starting at 7:30 in Room 307. Ms. McLaughlin is available for extra help and homework assistance. You can also work on Math IXL, projects or play Math review games. Please see Ms. McLaughlin with any questions.

Available to all 8th grade students. Join us Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:30am in room 411. Ms. Schwartz is available for extra help and homework assistance. You can also work on Math IXL, projects or play Math review games. Please see Ms. Schwartz with any questions.

Mock Trial - Advisors Mr. DeGraw & Mr. Joyce

Interested in the law? Want to learn about the court system? Have a desire to perform a trial? Then join the IMS Mock Trial Club!

Space Club - Advisor Mrs. Senatore, Mr. Dinuzzo & Mrs. Rogoff

The Space Club will be open to those who enjoy astronomy and are space enthusiasts.   The space club will research, discuss, create and observe all things space related. The Space Club will meet on Tuesdays in room 506.

Trivia Challenge - Advisor Ms. DiLonardo

Have you ever watched the TV show Jeopardy? Now is your chance to play! Engage in a fun, friendly competition to test your knowledge by answering trivia questions. Topics will include literature, geography, history, science, sports, music, pop culture, and more! Listen to the announcements for details about our meetings which will take place in Room 417. 

Yearbook Club - Advisors Ms. McLaughlin

The Yearbook Club is involved in creating the annual IMS Yearbook. Those in this club will help complete various tasks throughout the year so that the yearbook is ready by the end of the school year.
