Dear AMS Families,
As September came to an end this past week, and we embark upon the month of October, we have been very busy at Avenel Middle School. At this point in time, both students and teachers have established routines, and are engrossed in meaningful learning experiences on a daily basis. Next week we look forward to celebrating our Week of Inclusion and Respect. Please see the attachment for a list of spirit days for our Week of Respect and Inclusion, as well as for the entire month of October.
During the Week of Inclusion and Respect, students will participate in various activities that focus on Social Emotional Learning and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We will also have our first Spirit Week of the year and will cap the week off with our first pep rally on Friday, October 11.
On Thursday, October 10th at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, we are going to host our annual "Guidance Night." At "Guidance Night", our counselors will present information on the following topics:
Genesis Parent Portal
Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Laws
Social Emotional Learning
Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco Prevention/Programs
We invite you all to come to this informative session!
We look forward to next week and celebrating our AMS school community!
Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hello AMS Families,
Hope all is well. Just a few reminders for the next couple of weeks.
Wednesday, 9/25 is School Picture Day. All students, for the purpose of creating School I.D.s will be photographed, regardless if pictures are going to be ordered.
If your child is interested in participating in Basketball (Grade 7 and 8 students only) or Cheerleading (Grades 7 and 8 students only), physical forms are due by Tuesday, 10/1/24. If physical forms are not submitted by that date, there is no guarantee that your child will be cleared by the WTSD to participate in tryouts.

Avenel Middle School Elective options.

Dear AMS Families,
Hope everyone is doing well and we get a bit of nicer weather coming our way! Below you will find a few updates/reminders as we enter the last quarter of the school year.
Marking Period 4
Spring has arrived and we begin to embark upon Marking period 4 which starts on Monday, April 15th. Remind your child to review their schedule in Genesis as he/she will have a new elective class that starts on Monday. Students were also reminded of this in school today.
School Attendance
Attending school consistently is vital to a child's academic success and well being. Please click on the link below to review the WTSD Attendance Policy. Also, please plan accordingly to ensure that your child is arriving to school on time. If a student signs in to school after 8:20 a.m. he/she is considered late.
Dress Code
As the weather hopefully turns warmer, I would like this opportunity to review the WTSD dress code policy. Some important parts of the policy are:
Any clothing which is excessively tight or which displays excessive nudity, such as sheer or transparent blouses or shirts, brief or low cut blouses or shirts, or apparel that bares the midriff, shall not be permitted.
Tank tops, halters, and tube tops are not permitted.
Students may not wear short-shorts. Shorts and skirts shall be mid thigh or longer in length.
Students may not wear flip flops, slides, or slippers to school.
Electronic devices may only be used in accordance with school rules. Any other unauthorized use of electronic devices is prohibited and subject to consequences.
The administration reserves the right to determine if any article of clothing is inappropriate for school.
Please review these important items with your child. As always I appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
Enjoy the weekend!
Take care,
Mr. Leusen
Principal

Avenel Middle School March Spirit Days

Hello AMS Families,
As we begin to wrap up the month of February I just want to keep everyone up to date as to some of the happenings here at AMS.
We were visited by Mayor McCormac, and Mr. Barcellona, the Director of "We Feed Woodbridge" last week to conclude our "Have a Heart Food Drive." I'm proud to say the AMS community made a significant donation to our local food pantries! Thank you to all the families that donated to this most worthwhile venture.
We are in the middle of our Middle School Bowling Season. Ms. Vodarsik and the Boys and Girls Bowling teams are enjoying and having fun competing against the other WTSD bowling teams!
Scheduling News: Our guidance counselors are in the process of scheduling our 8th graders who will be attending our local high schools next year. If you have a question regarding your child's 9th grade schedule, please contact Mr. Valenti, our 8th grade counselor.
Student Chromebooks: We have had a number of chromebooks damaged this school year. Please discuss with your child their role and responsibility for taking care of their Chromebook. Upon a third incident where a student has returned a damaged chromebook and a fine hasn't been paid to the main office, that student will no longer be permitted to bring a chromebook home with them.
Woodbridge Township Animal Shelter Donations: The AMS Community Service Club is in the process of collecting items for the Woodbridge Township Animal Shelter. Items being collected are: Wet/Dry Dog and Cat food, used towels, paper towels, bleach and styrofoam bowls.
As a reminder please continue to visit our school's website and the WTSD website for important information and dates.
Thank you and I hope you enjoy the weekend!
Thank you,
Mr. Leusen
