Avenel Middle School Community, Our Annual AMS Have-A-Heart Food Drive is underway! Donations of canned goods and non-refrigerated items can be brought to Room 208 or Room 407 during homeroom. These items will be brought to the Woodbridge Food Pantry to help people in our community. Our goal is to reach 214 pounds of food for people in need. For every item that a student brings in, they will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gift card! The last day for collections will be Friday, February 18th. Thank you for your support.

AMS Families, A special thank you to the entire Avenel Middle School community for a successful week of remote learning. Reminder - School is closed this Monday, January 17th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Monday is also designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Students return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 18th. AMS Families, As you are aware from Dr. Massimino’s letter, all AMS students will be fully remote for the coming week (1/10/22-1/14/22). Here are some important updates and reminders for this week: -As always, if a student tests positive for COVID-19 notify Nurse Balog ASAP: heather.balog@woodbridge.k12.nj.us - Tomorrow (1/10/22) AMS students will be permitted to access the building through Door #1 between 7:30-8:15 AM, this is ONLY if they need to retrieve something from their locker. - Google Classroom will continue to be used to share, collaborate, distribute, and collect student work. The link to access live instruction will be available to all students in each teacher’s Google Classroom. - The daily schedule will run as follows: Block 1 (8:30-9:55 AM) Block 2 (10:00- 11:25 AM) Lunch (11:30 AM – 12:05 PM) Block 3 (12:10-1:35 PM) Block 4 (1:40-3:05 PM) - There will be no homeroom, daily attendance will be generated from the Block 1 attendance. Students must be in their Block 1 virtual classroom promptly at 8:30 AM. - Classes will utilize the first 60 minutes of the block for instruction and activities where the students will be required to remain on camera. Teachers will utilize the last 25 minutes of class for Office Hours and Support Services. - The AMS Girls Basketball Team will practice after school on Monday and the championship game is still scheduled for Tuesday at 5:15 PM in the Iselin Middle School Gymnasium. There will be no other in-person clubs or extra-curricular activities at AMS. Some clubs may run virtually, check your advisor’s Google Classroom. - During this week, some teachers will be teaching from their classroom and others will be teaching from home. - If a teacher is unable to teach, they will post assignments to Google Classroom and notify their classes. I am extremely confident that our staff, students, and families are fully prepared for a successful week of remote learning. Our entire staff is here to help. Thank you for your continued support.
