The following indicators provide the criteria upon which the Faculty Council selects candidates for induction into the Fords Middle School Honor Society (FMSHS).

I. Scholarship

Students will be considered for selection into the FMSHS based on the following indicators of scholarship:

* Is a 7th grade student who earned a minimum grade of B- in Grade 6 (based upon successful completion of a full year course work) AND achieves Academic Honor Roll in Marking periods 1 and 2 in Grade 7.

* Is an 8th grade student who was eligible for application in Grade 7 and continued to maintain academic requirements despite non-selection.

* Is an 8th grade student who is new to FMS and has completed at least a marking period 3 & 4 in Grade 7 and MP 1&2 in Grade 8 and whose transferring transcript meets the FMS requirements.

II. Service

Students will be considered for selection into the FMSHS based on the following indicators of service:

* Participation in service outside of school amounting to a minimum of 10 service hours each school year. School related activities other than general club meetings (i.e. volunteering at 6th grade orientation) or tasks may count towards hours.

III. Leadership

Students will be considered for selection into the FMSHS based on the following indicators of leadership:

* Maintain an active role in one or more extra-curricular activities.

* Make a consistent effort to be in a positive contributor to all FMSHS chapter functions.

* Consistently contribute to class discussions and group work.

* Act as a positive role model for student peers.

IV. Character

Students will be considered for selection into the FMSHS based on the following indicators of character:

* Demonstrate good morals and ethics

* Make sound decisions

* Cooperate and comply with all school and district policies including those related to cheating and plagiarism

* Involve in zero incidents of bullying and discipline (including, but not limited to ACS, OSS, and behavior-related detentions that earn conduct points) during grades 6, 7, or the first two marking periods of 8th grade (for 8th graders applying).

V. Citizenship

Students will be considered for selection into the FMSHS based on the following indicators of citizenship:

* Demonstrate maturity, respect, honesty, and reliability regularly

* Include and encourage all classmates and peers to participate in classroom and school activities
