Do You Know the Six Steps for Controlling Your Asthma?

Asthma is a chronic, ongoing lung disease that affects more than twenty four million people in the United States. There are six key steps you can take to help manage your child's asthma. They include:

  1. See your health care provider and get a written asthma treatment plan for your child and bring it to the school

  2. Follow your child's written asthma treatment plan

  3. Give all of your prescribed asthma medications and provide the school nurse with the medications in the original packages

  4. Know what your child's triggers are and stay away from them

  5. Know the early warning signs that your child's asthma is getting worse

  6. Make a follow-up appointment with your health care provider to make sure that your asthma is under control

Although you can’t cure asthma, it can be controlled and you should expect nothing less! Helpful links:
