The ESL/Bilingual Program curriculum is modeled on the NJ Department of Education model curriculum (version 1.0). It includes all Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects of the grade-level content organized into five units of study. Each unit defines targeted SLOs (Student Learning Objectives), intended for six weeks of instruction. It also contains the content of the grade that can be reasonably taught to proficiency in a six-week time period. The sequence of units in the curriculum has a purposeful sequence of the target skills for each unit in each grade or course. The included formative assessments allow for measuring student proficiency of those target skills as the year of instruction progresses. It is to be noted that some standards are not meant to be mastered in one six-week unit. These standards reappear through several units and are assessed periodically in one or more units to gauge students’ progression towards mastery of the topics.
