    MINUTES TO THE MAY 8, 2018 PARENTS MEETING

     

    The meeting was called to order in the CHS Band Room at approximately 8:01pm by Co-Presidents Dawn Walsh and Debra Misciagna.  In addition to many parents, Vice Presidents John Ngai and Barbara Gregory, Treasurer Gary Riveles, Secretary Dawn Wiese, and Maestro Kevin Perdoni were in attendance. 

     

    Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the meeting was called to order.

     

    Correspondence/Minutes (Dawn Wiese)-Dawn Wiese explained that the minutes from tonight’s meeting will be posted to Mr. Perdoni’s School Wire (www.woodbridge.k12.nj.us).

     

    Treasurer’s Report (Gary)-There was an opening balance of $8,797.40 for April and a closing balance of $19,101.44 due to our annual tricky tray.

     

    Fund Raising:

    -Amazon Smiles-Amazon Smiles is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com.  When you shop on Amazon Smiles, the Amazon Smile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice.  The organization of choice will be “Marching Units and Band Parents Club of Colonia Senior High School”.  The charity link is: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/22-2341001.  This can be an easy way for our band parent organization to raise money.

     -Tricky Tray- Our 5th Annual Tricky Tray was a major success! It helped us raise about $12,000 for our Marching Band Association.

     Band Dinner- Saturday June 16 (6PM-10PM) @ Colonia Fire House. Guard and Band members are FREE. Family members are welcome to come, but are required to buy tickets.

    $30-Adults

    $15-Children

    -Invitation and tickets to the band dinner will be handed out in the next 2 weeks.  All Guard and Band members attending should dress nicely.

      

    Director’s Update (Mr. Perdoni)

    -Thank you to everyone who helped out with our annual tricky tray and also to the chaperones who helped out on our recent Virginia trip! Both were a major success!

     -The meeting for the 2018/2019 new members, returning members, & parents will be on Tuesday May 15th 7:30PM in the school auditorium.

     -June 2 Parade-Colonia Fire Department 75th Anniversary Parade (12PM) Parade route begins at Cleveland Ave & runs through Montrose Ave where it will run back towards Inman Ave and end at Colonia Middle School.  Students participating will be playing music from the Virginia trip.  Mr. Perdoni will also invite New Band Members (incoming freshman) to play along with us.  There will be FREE FOOD & FUN at Colonia Middle School once the parade is finished.

    All students should wear black pants and their show shirts for the parade!

     -Next year’s band information and fundraisers will be presented at next weeks meeting.

     -Our 2019 Spring trip will be DisneyLand in California. The trip will cost about $1300/$1400. Hotel stay will be located across the street from the parks. (The trip will consist of 4 days of visiting the 2 parks, visiting Hollywood, marching in the parade, and attending a workshop). Trip deposits will be due early this year due to early flight bookings. All trip deposits will be due sometime in September of 2018. More info to follow!  

     -Mr. Perdoni is looking for 2 possible volunteers to help drive the uniforms and equipment to California. A rental truck will be provided but we are in need of drivers to get the equipment there safely.

     -Band Practices for the 2018/2019 school year will begin on Wednesdays in July and run up until August.

     -Band Camp for the 2018/2019 school year will be the last 2 weeks of August beginning on August 20, 2018. Band camp is mandatory and runs from (1PM-8PM).

     -Drum major tryouts took place this week and it was announced that our new Assistant Drum Major is Kaylin Fernandez. Congratulations to Kaylin!

    WE ARE IN NEED OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS & STUDENT VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR UPCOMING TRICKY TRAY ON 4/21! If you would like to sign up to help out, there is a sign-up sheet located in the band room. We need 15 students to help out that day. All students who sign up to volunteer, must report to CHS on 4/21 at 1:30PM. Pizza & soda will be provided to the students helping out. Any parents who sign up to volunteer, must report to CHS on 4/21 at 4:00PM.

     

    Prop Committee-Our New Show for the 2018/2019 Band Season will be “HEROES FALLEN NOT FORGOTTEN” (a patriotic theme involving Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, and Abraham Lincoln). This new show will involve props consisting of 8 cubes (4 smaller ones & 4 larger ones). Each cube will have 8x5 vinyl pictures on each side of it with a patriotic hero such as: Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, and Abraham Lincoln.

    The Prop Committee had their 1st meeting the other night and it was discussed on what type of materials will be needed to make our cubes so that they are compact and easy to maneuver. If anyone would like to help out and is handy with building, please contact Mr. Perdoni.

     

    Elections for 2018/2019 Band Season- Our current Vice President John Ngai announced the new Board Members running for office for the upcoming 2018/2019 Band Season. After each Board Member was announced, the room took a vote and 5 new Board Members were decided. Our new 2018/2019 Board Members will be:

    President- Dawn Walsh

    Vice President- Dawn Wiese

    Treasurers- Gary Riveles/Manny Barbosa

    Secretary- Elena Lobur

    *Each Board Member will be sworn in at our Band Dinner in June .

     

    Director’s Update (Mr. Perdoni)

    -APRIL 14, 2018-{SATURDAY} WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND DAY [9AM-3PM] @ Colonia High School. Any band students willing to help out at this event must report to CHS at 8:30AM. There will be a concert at 3PM.

     

    -April 19, 2018-{THURSDAY} BAND SPRING CONCERT @CHS 6:30PM. Students in the show need to report to CHS for 5:45PM.

     

    -Trip Info-

    -Norfolk, Virginia Trip 4/26-4/29

    -3 PRACTICES WILL BE HELD FOR THE BAND BEFORE THE UPCOMING TRIP ON:

    Wednesday 4/18, Monday 4/23 & Tuesday 4/24

    -For those students going on the Norfolk, Virginia trip, you will need to have your uniforms dry cleaned A.S.A.P and have them returned to the band room so that they are ready in time for the trip.

    -Trip itinerary is updated and located on Mr. Perdoni’s school wire (www.woodbridge.k12.nj.us)

    -All luggage going on the trip will need to be handed in to CHS on Wednesday 4/25 in the morning before school.

     

    -There will be a recruitment meeting for current band members and incoming freshman scheduled for the middle of May at 7:30PM. More info to follow!

     

    -Try outs for drum major will take place at the end of May. More info to follow!

     

    -Upcoming Parade- JUNE 2, 2018 Colonia Fire Department Anniversary Parade (12PM)

    -Our last and final band parent meeting for the 2017/2018 season will be on Tuesday May 8, 2018.

    Treasurer’s Report (Gary)-There was an opening balance of $5,000 due to all of the bagging and fundraising money deposited into the student’s trip accounts. There are no more fundraisers left for this band season. All SENIORS can no longer bag for this school year.

     

    Fund Raising:

    -Applebee’s Breakfast-We recently had our 2nd Applebee’s Breakfast for the 2017/2018 season on Saturday February 24.  We sold approximately 128 tickets and had a little over 100 people come out to support us. We are currently looking to book our next breakfast for the 2018/2019 band season for November. More info to follow.

    -Canvas Painting-The CHS Marching Band Parents are having a paint your own canvas night to benefit the CHS Marching Patriots.  The date has been re-scheduled from Wednesday March 7 due to the Nor’easter snow storm to Wednesday March 28, 20218  (7PM-9PM).  Located at the Woodbridge Artisan Guild 101 Main Street in Woodbridge, NJ. $30 per person. There are still 9 spots available. CHILDREN 16 AND UP ARE WELCOME! (Chips, cookies, brownies, coffee, water, and soda will be provided).  Please contact Dawn Walsh (Dbwalsh17@gmail.com) if interested in going.

     

    -Alabama Candles-Our Alabama Candle Fundraiser is currently ended. All orders were placed on March 6. We sold a total number of 216 candles, where $1,296 went into the students trip accounts.  All orders will be arriving mid March, just in time for Spring and Easter gifts.

    WE ARE IN NEED OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS & STUDENT VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR UPCOMING TRICKY TRAY ON 4/21! We will need Band Parents to volunteer and help assist in selling tickets on the day of the Tricky Tray and also help with walking the Alcohol Baskets to the winners. Students are not allowed to hold any of the alcohol baskets.  We will also need about 20-25 students to help set up the gymnasium on the day of the event. Volunteers will be needed at 2PM on 4/21! If you would like to sign up to help out, there will be a sign-up sheet located outside the band room for all students. All parents can notify Dawn Walsh at chsmarchingpatriots@gmail.com.  For those volunteering on the day of the tricky tray, pizza will be provided. All volunteers will need to stay until the end of the tricky tray to help clean up. The tricky tray should be done by 10:30PM/11:00PM.

     

    Elections for 2018/2019 Band Season- Our current 2017/2018 Band Season is almost over! We will be voting for new board members for the 2018/2019 Band Season at our next Band Parent Meeting scheduled for Tuesday April 10,2018. The Band Parent Members running for office are:

    -Upcoming Parades-

    -Sunday March 11- Woodbridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade (All students need to meet at CHS for 12pm. Bus will take you over to WHS. Parade begins at 1:30PM at WHS and end at the municipal building on Main Street in Woodbridge.

    -Sunday March 18- South Amboy St. Patrick’s Day Parade

    -Avenel Day Parade is scheduled for May. More details to follow!

    -Saturday June 2-Parade for the Colonia Fire Department (12PM)

     

    -Trip Info-

    -Final trip money is due by Friday 3/9.

    -Balances will be available via email on Wednesday 3/7

    -Trip performance times will be available in April

    -Any trip info regarding Norfolk , Virginia can be found on Mr. Perdoni’s school wires. Here you will find the day by day itinerary for the trip.

    -There will be a band meeting in May for incoming 8th graders  and they will be invited to participate with us during the Parade on June 2 for the Colonia Fire Department. More info to follow!

     

    -Last 2 weeks of August (August 20-31) will be our Summer Band Camp for the 2018/2019 season.

                                     MINUTES TO THE FEBRUARY 13, 2018 PARENTS MEETING

     

    The meeting was called to order in the CHS Band Room at approximately 8:06pm by Co-Presidents Dawn Walsh and Debra Misciagna.  In addition to many parents, Vice Presidents John Ngai and Barbara Gregory, Treasurer Gary Riveles, Secretary Dawn Wiese, and Maestro Kevin Perdoni were in attendance.

     

    Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the meeting was called to order.

     

    Treasurer’s Report (Gary)- Beginning balance for January was $17,090.68 resulting from our most recent bagging dates. Certain checks were debited, resulting in an ending balance for January of $10,591. All of the bagging and wrapping fundraisers this season will be debited from the band account in February and placed in the kids’ trip accounts. By the end of February, the Band account will have a balance of about $5,000.

     

    Fund Raising:

     -Gertrude Hawk Candy Bars-We are currently all SOLD OUT of Gertrude Hawk Candy Bars and are finished selling for this band season. We sold a total number of 52 cases this year. Thank you to all those who participated!

     

    -Applebee’s Breakfast- Our 2nd Applebee’s Breakfast for the 2017/2018 season is scheduled for Saturday February 24.  Each student has been given 10 tickets to sell at $10 per ticket, where $5 of each ticket sold will go towards their trip account.   Additional tickets can be requested.  All money collected and any unsold tickets must be returned by Tuesday February 20 to Mr. Perdoni or Dawn Walsh.  Sign-up sheets will be posted in the band room for students willing to help out that day.

    PARENTS MEETING

     

    The meeting was called to order in the CHS Band Room at approximately 8:06pm by Co-Presidents Dawn Walsh and Debra Misciagna.  In addition to many parents, Vice Presidents John Ngai and Barbara Gregory, Treasurer Gary Riveles, Secretary Dawn Wiese, and Maestro Kevin Perdoni were in attendance. 

     

    Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the meeting was called to order.

     

    Correspondence/Minutes (Dawn Wiese)-Minutes posted to Mr. Perdoni’s School Wire.

     

    Treasurer’s Report (Gary)- Beginning balance in December was $9,242.51.  $95 was put towards the Wine Glass Fundraiser and $1,037.98 was put towards New Varsity Letters.  We had many bagging/gift wrapping dates for December, bringing in an additional $8,981.15.  Final balance for December was $17,090.68. All bagging/gift wrapping fundraiser money will be debited from the account sometime in January and will be placed in the kid’s trip accounts. After all trip money is deducted, we will have an ending balance of about $8,000.

     

    Fund Raising:

     -Gertrude Hawk Candy Bars-Variety packs of Gertrude Hawk candy bars are still currently in stock. We have 1 case left if anyone is interested in selling additional candy. If you would like to pick up more chocolate, please send payment in, addressed to Barbara Gregory.

     

    -Applebee’s Breakfast-We are looking into having our 2nd Applebee’s Breakfast for the 2017/2018 season. Dates that are being considered are Saturday February 24th, or Sunday March 4. We are currently waiting for Confirmation. More details to follow.

    -Alabama Candle-Our Alabama Candle Fundraiser has begun!!!! Each candle costs $12.  50% of each candle sold ($6) will go into the student’s individual trip account. Stop by the band room to pick up an order form if you haven’t received one. This is a great way to build your trip account. Money and orders are due no later than February 23. All candle orders will be arriving mid March, just in time for Spring and Easter gifts. Any questions, please contact Barbara Gregory.

     

    -Canvas Painting- The CHS Marching Band Parents are looking into having a canvas painting night in February or March for (ages 16-over). Cost will be $30/$35 per person. (25 people max). More info to follow!

     

    -Tricky Tray-Our annual Tricky Tray is planned for Saturday April 21, 2018. Doors open at 6pm. Drawings to begin at 7:30pm. (We currently have 106 items donated so far).  If you would like to help out and or assist with the donations, please come to our monthly meetings held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7pm and also the same night of our band parent meeting which is at 8pm.  If you need a solicitation letter to help get donations, please contact Dawn Walsh.  We will eventually be in need of volunteers the night of the event to help set up and sell tickets. Tickets to the Tricky Tray will go on sale in the next few weeks.

     

    *A letter will be going home in the next few weeks asking all Marching Band/Color Guard Students to send in $25.00 to help purchase items to make additional baskets for our Tricky Tray.

     

    Band Dinner-Saturday June 16, 2018 (6PM-10PM) at the Colonia Fire House.

     

    Director’s Update (Mr. Perdoni)-

    -1st deposit of $200 for the 2018 Spring Trip was due on January 2. The trip this year will be to Norfolk, Virginia. (April 26-April 29). Buses will leave Colonia High School on Thusday April 26th and come home on Sunday April 29th. It is a 5-6 hour bus ride. $550 is the cost of the trip. There are currently 20-25 spots still available. If you are interested in going, please send in your $200 deposit made out to “Colonia High School” as soon as possible to Mr. Perdoni.  You will also need to fill out a trip form on Mr. Perdoni’s school wire account to reserve your spot.

    -2nd deposit due February 2  (You don’t need to make a payment if you have enough     

             funds in your trip account). This pertains only to the students who don’t have    

             enough funds in their trip accounts.

    -3rd deposit due March 2 (total remaining balance)

     

    *If anyone would like to know what their child’s current trip account balance is, please contact Mr. Perdoni via email in the next week, so that you can find out how much money you owe or don’t owe.

           MINUTES TO THE NOVEMBER 14, 2017 PARENTS MEETING

     

    The meeting was called to order in the CHS Teacher’s lounge at approximately 8:03 pm by Co-Presidents Dawn Walsh and Debra Misciagna.     Treasurer’s Report (Gary)-We currently have $13,000 available in our account. We earned $3600 from fundraisers this year. For those bagging at Woodbridge Shop-Rite on November 5th, will receive $41.87 into their trip accounts. Students who helped out at the Applebee’s breakfast will split $2,258.87 into their trip accounts.

     

    Fund Raising:

         -Gertrude Hawk Candy Bars-Variety packs of Gertrude Hawk candy bars are still currently in stock. We have about 5 cases left if anyone is interested in selling additional candy.  If you would like to pick up more chocolate, please send payment in, addressed to Barbara Gregory. 

     

         -Progressive 50/50-We sold a total of $4,470 in ticket sales and $2,235 of it will go towards our association.

     

         -Applebee’s Breakfast-Thank you to all who came out to support the Clark Applebee’s Breakfast on Sunday November 12. We sold 319 tickets between band and choir. The students who helped participate in this event are able to split $2,258.87 towards their trip accounts.

     

         -Shop-Rite Bagging (WOODBRIDGE)-Students who participated in the Woodbridge Shop-Rite bagging on Sunday November 5th, each will receive $41.87 into their trip account. Our next bagging date at the Woodbridge Shop-Rite will be on: Saturday December 9 (3pm-8pm).

     2018 Spring Trip-(April 26-April 29 ) [Norfolk, Virginia] We will leave Colonia High on Thursday April 26th and come home on Sunday April 29th,. It is a 5-6 hour bus ride. $550 cost of the trip.  (Payment due in March).

    Treasurer’s Report (Gary)- We raised about $1100 in apparel sales this year and about $1500 in 50/50 sales from our recent home games. We currently have an ending balance of $11,000.

          -Gertrude Hawk Candy Bars- Variety packs of Gertrude Hawk candy bars are currently in stock. We have about 12 cases left if anyone is interested in selling. If you would like to pick up chocolate, please send payment in, addressed to Barbara Gregory.  Each box (case) is $48 per box (case). [Each bar is $1.00]. For every box (case) sold, the band student will receive $19.20 into their trip account.  If you would like single flavors, please let Barbara know as she will need 12 orders from the group to place additional orders.

    *Band parents will buy subs from Subworks in Colonia for the students and will supply chips and water. Each student will have a choice of a sub with meat or a sub with just cheese.

    -You do not have to supply food for this event unless your child does not like subs. If they rather have food from home, you can send them in with a bagged lunch.

Places of interest for the trip are: Norfolk parade of Nations, choir & jazz band(Chrysler Center), the Virginia International Tattoo, and Bush Gardens.

    We are considering doing additional fundraisers such as: Popcorn Factory, Palate Painting, Wine & Design night, and Amazon Smiles.

     

    Volunteers- Men Volunteers are needed for Friday night away games and also for Competitions on weekends to help load and unload our student’s equipment truck. Loading for away games on Friday nights begin around 5pm. Weekend competition loading will depend on start of competition. Please contact John Ngai if interested in helping out.

    Group 4A. Two of our competitions have been changed. We will be competing Saturday October 14 at Woodbridge High instead of North Brunswick and on Saturday October 28, we will be competing at Rutgers instead of Rowan University.

     October 1, 2017-We have 2 events scheduled for our Marching Band/Color Guard.

    *1. US BANDS COMPETITION at JP Stevens High School

    1. COLONIA PRIDE DAY PARADE (parade starts at school#21 around 1:30pm and ends at Colonia Fire House

    [after parade, Colonia Fire House will be providing free hamburgers and hot dogs]

     

    As the weather is going to get colder, please tell your children to make sure they layer up under their uniforms and to bring jackets in order to keep warm. Raincoats will be provided if it should rain.

     

    Students can bring water and money to competitions in order to purchase snacks. They will go up as a group when purchasing. Parents are asked to please not interfere with the students while they are at competitions.

     

    For every Friday home game, pizza will be ordered for the students. Each student is asked to bring in $5.00 and it is collected on Friday morning. Students will stay after school on Fridays and practice for a bit, eat their pizza, and then get dressed for the 7pm game. Students do not go home on Fridays until after the football game.

    Nothing has changed concerning regarding the Disney trip. Reminders will be sent on Luggage. Uniforms will be brought in before the trip with shoes, socks, etc.
