The goal at Robert Mascenik School #26 is to develop life-long learners. The ability to communicate with respect and demonstrate responsibility within our school and home environments is a continuing priority for our students, staff and community members.
The school instructional program is one shared by all of Woodbridge Township's elementary schools. The language arts curriculum focuses on Reading and Writing Workshop which includes research based literacy strategies. The acclaimed Everyday Math program is used in grades K-5. Quality instruction is also provided in social studies, science, health, physical education, world languages, vocal and instrumental music, and art. All areas of instruction are student centered, interactive, differentiated, and align with the New Jersey Common Core Curriculum Standards.
To support 21st Century Learning, our school infrastructure is equipped with wireless Internet access in all classrooms. Lap top computers, in mobile carts, are available for our students and staff to use to access the Internet and enhance the curriculum. Our school also has a site license for Study Island, a web site based tutorial programs designed to help students achieve skill level mastery, prepare for test taking, or provide remediation in critical skill areas in Math and Language Arts. Students in grades 3-5 can participate in lessons as a class, at home, or anywhere there is Internet access. In school, a staff member monitors all Internet access.
Robert Mascenik School #26 offers Academic Support Instruction in reading and math, Speech, an off-site Gifted and Talented program, Special Education services, an Intervention and Referral Services Committee to help teachers assist children who are having difficulty in school, and a part time guidance counselor. Our school is one of four district after-care sites and is also a before care site for elementary school students. We are part of the District T.A.P. program (Teacher-Apprentice-Program) often working with 8-10 high school seniors interested in education as their career. Also, we have enjoyed our students participating in the High School Language Arts program completing scripts and acting roles.
As additions to our comprehensive program, we offer Honor Roll, All Stars, Principal's Pride, Chorus, Band, and Art Club. Our test scores reflect our hard work and highly effective programs. Our Highly Qualified Staff receives ongoing professional development to embrace new techniques and instructional strategies to meet the needs of our increasingly diverse population thereby encouraging all of our students to succeed.
In addition to its academic emphasis, Robert Mascenik School promotes student citizenship and caring about our community through staffing our morning announcements and school wide participation in variety of activities including food drives for residents of the township and Middlesex County, relief for earthquake victims in Haiti, a pop tab collection campaign to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, and Jump Rope for Hearts for the American Heart Association.
The Robert Mascenik Home School Association helps throughout the year to provide activities and programs that allow for cross articulation and "meet and greet" times enjoyed by all. The All-Star recognition, gifts, and year-end picnic are successful continuing endeavors.
Our physical plant is situated on a six-acre site and contains a whole school air-conditioning system purchased by the Home and School Association. Merrill Park, part of the Middlesex County Parks system, borders the school property providing beautiful surroundings used for school activities. We challenge the many interests of our students and families presenting them with high level, critical thinking avenues toward success. Robert Mascenik School builds a solid academic foundation for tomorrow’s leaders.
