Claremont Avenue School #20 is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment conducive to all students learning. Our highly-qualified faculty serves a diverse student body and strives to meet their academic, social, and emotional needs on a daily basis. Instruction is guided by relevant, student-centered lessons that seek to engage students and keep them active participants in the learning process. The faculty utilizes a variety of differentiated instructional methods as well as technology-based strategies to facilitate student learning. All lessons are in accordance with curriculum guides approved by the Woodbridge Township Board of Education and aligned with the most recent New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Ultimately, our goals center around providing a solid and well-rounded academic foundation that will foster life-long learners and contributing citizens.

Our student body is representative of the diverse community we serve as students come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. We recognize that students possess different learning styles and pride ourselves on providing services to meet individual needs. Claremont Avenue School offers a variety of support services including Academic Support Instruction, English as a Second Language, Bilingual Support, Speech, Intervention and Referral Services, In-Class Resource Support, and Child Study Team Services. In addition, we also offer more rigorous instruction for those students who qualify for additional enrichment. The Woodbridge Township School District’s Program for the Exceptionally Gifted (PEG) and Gifted and Talented Program (G&T) serves a number of students at Claremont Avenue School. Regardless of the student’s background, our faculty understands the importance of communicating and collaborating to design instructional lessons and identify necessary services that will allow each student to fulfill their academic potential.

To ensure the students of Claremont Avenue School receive a 21st century education, teachers regularly implement and utilize technology to enhance the delivery of instruction. Our faculty uses Smartboards, mimios, and DLP projectors to create interactive classrooms that foster creativity and problem-solving skills. These resources are used to build lessons in all content areas including Language Arts, Health, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The building’s wireless capacity also allows students to use laptops and netbooks in any classroom and gain access to educational websites on the World Wide Web. In addition to each student working with web-based programs such as Study Island and Learnia, the teachers consistently find new and innovative educational sites that engage students and keep them excited to learn. We at Claremont Avenue School are dedicated to acquiring the most effective classroom technology that can be integrated into all aspects of our students’ learning.

The community members of Colonia and Woodbridge Township also play an important role in making Claremont Avenue Elementary School successful. The Parent Teacher Organization consists of parents and volunteers who contribute with fundraising efforts and through setting up various events throughout the year. The events, that are meant to welcome parents in being active and visible members in their child’s educational environment, include the Scholastic Book Fair, Student Science Fair, Muffins with Mom, and Doughnuts with Dad to name a few. The PTO also plays an integral role in providing students with the opportunity to partake in activities such as class trips, educational assemblies, and our annual Claremont Field Day.

There are also a number of school sponsored and service learning events that allow the students to demonstrate the importance of altruism and citizenship within their community. Our Instrumental and Choral students perform winter and spring concerts at Claremont Avenue School as well as visiting and performing at local senior citizens residences. The students also participate in the American Heart Association Jump-for-the-Heart, Trick or Treating for UNICEF, and an annual Veterans’ Home Bake-Off. These activities have helped to foster an understanding of volunteerism and charity among the students while also reinforcing their sense of community beyond the hallways of Claremont Avenue School

In closing, we welcome all parents, guardians, and community members to become part of our learning environment. Our passion for student success is guided by setting high academic standards, having efficacious faculty members, and establishing trust with our students and parents. We believe that the continued involvement and efforts of all stakeholders will allow the students at Claremont Avenue to reach new levels of success. We invite you to stop by and join in our journey as we meet new challenges and goals everyday at Claremont Avenue School #20.
