The faculty and staff at Fords Middle School work diligently to ensure all students are proficient on grade level curriculum. All of our teachers are highly-qualified, extremely motivated professionals who implement a variety of instructional methods to meet the needs of our diverse learners. Every lesson delivered by our faculty is rigorous, relevant, and student-centered, affording our students the opportunity to utilize their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Our school’s main strength is the diversity of our student population. Fords Middle School is committed to providing an educational program where excellence is the expectation for all in an environment that is free from discrimination. Many of our students participate in our Multicultural Club that educates others on the different cultures represented by our students. Each year, teachers, parents and students work together to present a multicultural event celebrating our community’s diversity. In addition, the Multicultural Club and Early Act Club enjoy planning and implementing service projects to benefit the greater Fords Middle School community. We regularly participate in collecting canned goods and clothing to benefit our local families and pantries, videocassettes for the Robert Wood Johnson’s pediatric ward, hard candies for the senior citizens at the St. Joseph’s Convalescent Center, and donations to the Ronald McDonald House and the American Cancer Society. Presently the Early Act Club and Student Council are conducting several fundraising activities to support American Troops overseas. In addition to the successful programs we have had in the past, this school year we will be rolling out a new initiative titled Positive Behavior Support In Schools (PBSIS). Implementing this program is possible because of grant money awarded to our school from Trenton. The objective is to provide students who regularly display positive behavior opportunities to be noticed and showcased. Students experience a challenging curriculum at Fords Middle School. There are opportunities for all students to enroll in advanced courses such as Honors English, Honors Math, Algebra I, Spanish I, French I and Chinese I provided the necessary prerequisites have been completed. Also, many of our students enroll in our Gifted and Talented Enrichment Program. In support of the rigorous curriculum, technology is a priority at Fords Middle School. Every room in our building has access to the Internet via wireless routers. We have three computer labs as well as eight portable laptop carts, providing our students ample opportunity to complete advanced research. In addition to the necessary equipment, the administration and teaching staff are very committed to continuously infusing technology into the curriculum. The building's wireless capabilities allow students, faculty, and staff to access a variety of educational resources found on the World Wide Web. Students and faculty use desktop and laptop computers, interactive whiteboards, and student response clicker systems to support and enhance many of our academic programs. As a result, our learners regularly experience a variety of interactive lessons to compliment our grade 6-8 curricula. In closing, I invite you to visit the positive learning environment here at Fords Middle School. The faculty and staff welcome all to our building where excellence is the expectation for all. - Glenn Lottmann |
