Miscellaneous

Courses listed in the Program of Studies for high schools in Woodbridge Township are offered at different levels of intensity. These levels are designated as AP, Honors, R, and S. Students should select courses on the basis of their interests and abilities and in consultation with their guidance counselor. The Guidance Department encourages all students to take as rigorous course of study as they can handle.

AP Level – courses are geared toward the College Entrance Board Advanced Placement Examination given each year in the spring. This is a college level course taught in Woodbridge High School.

Honors Level – Only English 1, 2, and 3 is taught on the honors level. These courses help prepare the students for the English AP level.

R Level – R level courses in which materials, topics, techniques and requirements are very rigorous and challenging. The emphasis in these courses is placed upon individual responsibility and in-depth research.

S Level – S level courses are for students who may be preparing for entry to college, community college, business schools and trade and technical schools.

Athletic Eligibility

All students above the ninth grade must pass 30 credits at the conclusion of the school year in order to be eligible for Fall and Winter athletic programs. Courses successfully made up during summer school programs can be applied to satisfy this requirement. A student must be passing courses earning the equivalent of 30 credits at the conclusion of the second marking period in order to be eligible for Spring athletic programs.

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society chooses its candidates each year on the basis of student scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Only academically eligible juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be invited to accept application for membership.
To fulfill the service requirement as a junior, a student must have participated in at least 6 activities up to the date of selection, with 2 of those activities within the current year. For seniors, a student must have participated in at least 8 activities up to the date of selection, with 2 of those activities within the current year.

Faculty members, chosen by the candidates, will evaluate the prospective members' character and leadership qualities. Negative reports and school disciplinary records are individually investigated and evaluated.

It is not mandatory for candidates to accept membership in the National Honor Society; however, once membership has been accepted, there is an obligation on the part of students to maintain the standards by which they were selected and to participate in meetings and projects the group may choose to undertake. Flagrant violation of school or chapter rules may result in dismissal from the National Honor Society.

Rank

Rank is calculated at the end of each year, which includes all classes a student has enrolled in starting with their freshman year. A final rank is calculated at the end of the student’s senior year. All nine classes are counted for rank, and differentiated by AP, R, and S classes. We encourage all students to enroll in as rigorous course of study as that student can handle.

Tutoring

Woodbridge High School offers several free tutoring services including: Math Tutorial Club, 20/20 HSPA tutoring, lunch tutoring, and peer tutoring through National Honor Society. If a student is struggling in any class, that student should first talk to the teacher. Most teachers will make arrangements to help all students that need it, or see your guidance counselor for help.

SAT

The SAT is given during the months of October, November, December, January, March, May, and June. We recommend students take the SAT twice during their junior year, after participating in SAT Prep class, and once their senior year.

ACT

The ACT is another college entrance exam. It is given during the same months as the SAT but not on the same date. This test is more subject-based, and the writing section is optional.

College On-Sites Admissions

Every year a number colleges, send representatives to WHS to meet and interview students that meet their admissions requirements. The students apply that day and are given an immediate decision. Please contact guidance for a list of participating schools and dates.

Scholarships

There are numerous scholarships that are only for Woodbridge Township residents. They include Elks, Rotary, and President’s Council. We encourage all students to apply. Scholarship applications are available in the Guidance Department.

College Fairs

There are two main college fairs throughout the year. The first in October located at Middlesex County College. The second is the end of April and the beginning of May located at the Expo Center in Raritan Center. They are open to all students and we strongly encourage all juniors and seniors to attend these college fairs.
