PROJECT GRADUATION

Welcome parents and students of Woodbridge High School's Class of 2012! Project Graduation is a wonderful opportunity for all our seniors to spend their graduation night together in a supervised drug and alcohol-free environment.

Graduation is a time of great excitement and joy, a time for celebrating past achievements and new beginnings. All too often, however, the high-spirited, unsupervised celebrating of the occasion results in drug and alcohol-related accidents. Concerned citizens recognized the need for a positive means of protecting young lives while providing the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled evening of celebration. From the beginning, the Project Graduation concept has been a nationwide effort endorsed by the PTO, MADD, and SADD. The success of the Project Graduation endeavor is immeasurable.

What is Project Graduation?

Project Graduation began more than a decade ago. It is a drug and alcohol-free all night celebration following the graduation ceremony approved by the Board of Education. Since there is no state or school funding for this event, the parents of the senior students should attend the PTO meetings throughout the year to discuss various ways to fundraise for this event. Project Graduation is an attempt to keep our children safe on one of the most memorable evenings of their lives.

Benefits

Students: Students benefit more than anyone else. They learn that it is possible to have a good time without the use of alcohol or drugs. They have a “safe” celebration to attend where everyone will have a good time without the risk of hurting anyone or themselves.

Parents: Parents will benefit by knowing where their children are during the established time frame set for the celebration and also by knowing that the students are safe and well chaperoned.

Community: The community benefits because Project Graduation celebrations decrease the risk of alcohol and drug-related accidents associated with unsupervised celebrating. Communities can take pride in knowing that they have demonstrated concern for their youth.
