The Guidance Department at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School provides a wide range of services for our students including aiding in the preparation of college applications, providing vocational guidance, providing college placement and scholarship assistance, conducting the administration of testing programs and SAT preparation, course scheduling, obtaining working papers, and personal needs counseling.

The 2011 PSAT scores for all WTSD juniors and sophomores have been delivered to the three high schools. Link your score to the WTSD endorsed MyRoad program that is developed by The College Board to find your match from potential colleges and careers. Please contact your schools' guidance department for more information. Don't forget to have your child enroll in the MyRoad program. All students who took the 2011 PSAT receive free access to MyRoad through the My College QuickStart until they graduate from high school. The MyRoad program is a comprehensive online major, college and career exploration program.

AXA Achievement Scholarship: Applicants should be actively involved in the community, have led a project that benefited others, and/or overcome a personal challenge. To learn more and to download an application, visit www.axa-achievement.com . All applications are due by December 1, 2011.

Princeton Prize in Race Relations: Applicants must have been actively involved in a volunteer activity that had a significant impact in race relations. for more information and to apply, please visit www.princeton.edu/pprize/. All applications are due by January 31, 2012.

American Legion Auxiliary National President’s Scholarship: Applicants for this award must be a child or grandchild of a veteran and must have completed 50 hours of volunteer service within the community. American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships: There are four additional scholarships sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary for any student who is a child or grandchild of a veteran. All scholarships are based on Character, Americanism, Leadership, Scholarship, and Financial Need. All applications are due by April 15, 2012. Visit Guidance for an application.

New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation: This scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to further his or her education either at a college or university or a tradeor technical school. All applicants must submit an essay about his or her visit to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, located off the Garden State Parkway at exit 116 in Holmdel. For more information and to apply, please visit http://www.njvvmf.org/Scholarship. All applications are due by April 20, 2012.

2011 New York Tri-State RHMC®/ASIA Scholarship awards 6 scholarships to local graduating Asian high school seniors. Unlike other programs, the RMHC/ASIA Scholarship is a multi-year scholarship that awards students up to $5,000 for their freshman year, followed by additional scholarships throughout their undergraduate studies as long they meet a required GPA. The 2011 New York Tri-State RHMC®/ASIA Scholarship is open to current high school seniors in the Tri-State New York area, who have at least one parent of Asian-Pacific heritage and who are eligible to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school with complete course of study. Applicants must be legal U.S. residents, be less than 21 years of age, and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority has announced their 2011 scholarship. Candidates must be female seniors ranking in the top half of their graduating class with plans to attend a bachelor or associate degree program. The Zeta Phi Beta is a service organization founded in 1920 at Howard University. Zeta predicates herself on the precepts of Scholarship, Service Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. All applications must be received by February 1, 2012. Applications are available in guidance.

New Jersey Burglar and Fire Alarm Association has announced two scholarship opportunities for sons and daughters of active duty police and fire personnel. First prize award is $1500 and the second prize award is$1000. Interested seniors who are graduating in June and will attend an accredited college or university are eligible. Applicants must provide a resume, essay, letters of recommendation, transcripts, standardized test scores, and proof of parent’s employment. Applications are available in guidance and are due by March 15, 2012.

The New Jersey Schoolwomen’s Club has offered two scholarships for $1000 and $500 to female graduates who intend to pursue a career in education. Applications are available in guidance and must include evidence of outstanding academic achievement through transcripts, SAT/ACT, letters of recommendation, and an essay. The application must be postmarked by March 1, 2012.

Key Club Scholarships. Any senior member of the Key Club is eligible to receive any of the 17 scholarships offered. Please visit guidance for the application and requirements. Two letters of recommendation are required along with a description of the Key Club projects in which you participated, transcript, resume, and a two page essay about your most memorable Key Club Service Project. The deadline is March 1, 2012.

The Raritan Americus Lodge Free and Accepted Masons are pleased to announce a $1000 scholarship to available to a local graduating senior. The scholarship is based on academic achievement, worthwhile activities, financial need, and morals. The application is available in the guidance office and the deadline is April 1, 2012.

The New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association is sponsoring a scholarship for the amount of $1000 to be awarded to a graduating senior afflicted with CFS. The application is available for download at http:njcfsa.org. The deadline is April 15, 2012.

The American Legion Auxilary National President’s Scholarship 2010-2011: Seniors who are family members of war veterans may be eligible for these scholarships. Applicants must present the completed application on or before March 1, 2012. Applications and scholarship requirements are available in the guidance office.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has published a 2011 scholarship opportunity for the Woodbridge/Perth Amboy region. The application and its list of requirements is available in the guidance office and must be received by March 1, 2012.

Tzu Chi Foundation is now accepting applications for graduating seniors based on financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement. Applications can be downloaded at http://www.us.tzuchi.org and must be submitted by March 19, 2012.

The Middlesex County Nurses Association will award a scholarship to a graduating senior with financial hardship majoring in nursing. The application is available in guidance.

The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey is announcing three 2011 scholarships for high school seniors who have epilepsy. Applications and supporting materials are due by April 30, 2012. The applications are available in guidance.

The NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation is awarding two $2500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Essays about visiting the NJ Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial are required. Applications are available in guidance and are due April 15, 2012.

The Robert Wood Johnson Rahway Auxilary is offering scholarships to the Class of 2011 who are pursuing Health Career fields and who are in the top 20% of their graduating class. Applications are available in guidance and are due April 15, 2012.

Mid New Jersey Youth Soccer League is awarding two $1000 scholarships based on scholarship, community and soccer involvement. The scholarship is available at their website and in the guidance office. The application deadline is May 31, 2012.

The Community Foundation of New Jersey is offering scholarships to the Class of 2012. The scholarship requirements and application can be found at www.cfnj.org.

Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship: (Deadline: May 30, 2012)
This $5000 scholarship is open to students currently enrolled as high school students or first-year college students. Dial My Dentist Scholarship Program: (Deadline: February 1, 2012)

S.S. Scholarship Program: (Deadline: June 1, 2012)

Big Dig Scholarship: (Deadline: June 1, 2012)

2011 ICBC Scholarship: (Deadline: June 15, 2012)
This $1000 scholarship is open to students that are between the ages of 17-21 that are residents of the US or Canada. Teacher’s Insurance Plan on NJ: Applications are due by April 1st and available is Guidance. Must be accepted to an institution of higher learning. Awards will be determined based on the following guidelines:
Leadership Experience, Academic Record, Strong Personal Statement, Completed Application, HS transcript and LOR.

Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey: Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due by April 6, 2012. Need HS transcript, SAT scores, and acceptance letter.

Disabled American Veterans of NJ Chapter 20: $2500 scholarship is available to students who have a relative that is a member of the Disabled American Veterans of NJ. Must be a resident of NJ, a graduating HS senior, and must submit an essay on “Americanism - What it Means to ME.” Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Big Sun Scholarship: All student-athletes are eligible. Deadline is June 22, 2012. $500 Award.

New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation – (2) $2,500.00 scholarships. Details are included on the application form which is available in the Guidance Office. Portuguese-American Scholarship Foundation – Student, parent, or grandparent must be Portuguese-born. A scholastic average of "B" or better is required and you must demonstrate financial need. (8) Scholarships are available in the amount of $8,000 each. For eligibility requirements, please visit www.vivaportugal.com/pasf. Completed applications must be received on or before March 15, 2012.

B. Davis Scholarship – High School juniors and seniors are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship.Visit the Student Award Search Aid website at http://www.studentawardsearch.com/scholarships.htm for additional information and requirements. The website is free and helps students locate and apply for scholarships. The deadline for applications is May 28, 2012.
